Why Don't We Need Wisdom Teeth Anymore?

Our distant ancestors relied on a diet of tough plant materials and raw meats that required significant chewing power. Anthropologists believe that as our diets evolved, the need for large chewing surfaces and extra molars decreased. At the same time, our jaw size also decreased, leaving less room for third molars to emerge properly.
