Your alarm goes off. You have a busy schedule ahead of you, and you’re already feeling behind before the day even begins. Between meetings, getting back and forth to work and other distractions, it’s easy to let your oral hygiene slip when you feel rushed.

Unfortunately, even if you only skip your dental routine occasionally, it can negatively impact your oral health. That’s why we’ve devised a 5-minute morning routine for busy professionals and anyone who wants to keep their teeth and gum health on track.

Your 5-Minute Morning Routine

You don’t need much time to maintain your oral health.

Consider these tips to make every second count:

  • Use an electric toothbrush — Spend two minutes letting an electric toothbrush do the work for you. Find an electric toothbrush with a built-in timer and a small, round head. This will thoroughly clean your teeth and ensure you brush for a full two minutes.
  • Focus on your technique — Even when you don’t have a great deal of time, be sure to angle your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle and use small, gentle circles. Also, don’t neglect any of your tooth surfaces; brush the entire tooth and around your gumline.
  • Floss smarter — It’s essential to keep floss in convenient locations so you can floss when you have extra time. Glide the floss between every tooth, curving it around the tooth and below the gumline.
  • Rinse your mouth — After you brush and floss, spend 30 seconds rinsing your mouth with fluoride mouthwash. It will kill bacteria and freshen your breath, preparing you for your first meeting.
  • Pack a bag — Consider keeping toothpaste, a toothbrush and floss in your work bag or drawer so you can practice good oral health habits after lunch or other times during the day.
